I believe literacy is the foundation for all other learning. Therefore, I believe reading is one of the most important skills that can be practiced in the school setting. Personally, I love to read. My favorite genres are science fiction, horror, dystopian, and modernist poetry. I also suspect that kids who hate reading just haven't found "their book" yet. I make it my goal to help them find that book, and learn to love to read.
Along with reading, we have writing. Readers are writers and writers are readers. One cannot exist without the other. In the age of AI, social media, and scrolling content, I make it my mission to help students find their voice among the chaos. Writing is an important mode of communication and a vital part of our classroom.
